How often, and when
Once a year suits most Cork houses, ideally in late autumn once the leaves are down. Properties under trees or with heavy roof moss need it twice. The back of the house is where gutters pack solid, precisely because nobody looks at it.
What overflow actually costs
Water pouring down a wall through an Irish winter saturates the render, tracks into the cavity and eventually shows as internal damp. Add rotten fascia timber and stained brickwork, and a €150 clean becomes a four-figure repair.
Repair or replace
Realigning brackets, resealing joints and replacing a section is worth doing on a sound system. Once the runs are brittle, cracking at multiple joints and the fascia behind is soft, replacement in uPVC or aluminium is the cheaper answer over any sensible timeframe.
